Happier, richer and a bit fatter. . . . Wealth, environment, good government and community spirit all contribute to our ratings on life satisfaction scales. People in the West are on average more satisfied with their lives than ever before. Some room for improvement though: wealth does not always lead to better health. Sometimes it leads to over indulgence in fatty foods and sugary drinks – alcohol most of all. These give pleasure in the instant but isn’t the sort which lasts. Many quick fixes to happiness are short lived. Better to work at the other 99 lessons in this book.
